Oikos - Peppermint essential oil

Mentha piperita. Country of origin: Morocco.
 
Astringent, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antipruritic (anti-itch), antiseptic, antiviral, carminative, cardiac tonic, antipyretic, liver stimulant, microbicidal, antispasmodic, appetite stimulant, diaphoretic, vasoconstrictive, anthelmintic and vermifuge.
 
Peppermint is a perennial herb with bright green, lance-shaped, sharply serrated leaves. It spreads very quickly through underground runners. Peppermint blooms with purple/lilac-coloured flowers in slender spikes.
 
It originated as a hybrid between Mentha viridis and Mentha aquatica. It is found throughout Europe and America and is cultivated worldwide.
 
The essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the flowering herb.
 
In aromatherapy, peppermint oil is used for acne, dermatitis, muscle pain, palpitations, asthma, bronchitis, bad breath, colic, cramps, flatulence, nausea, colds, influenza, fainting, headaches, mental fatigue, migraine, and nervous stress.
