Analgesic, mood-enhancing, antirheumatic, carminative, cholagogue, diuretic, emmenagogue, cardiac tonic, deodorant, insecticidal, parasiticidal, antispasmodic, calming, stimulating, wound-healing, tonic, anthelmintic and vermifuge.

 

Lavender is an evergreen woody shrub growing up to 1 meter tall, with light green, narrow, upright leaves. It blooms with blue flower spikes. It is originally from the Mediterranean region but is now cultivated worldwide. The oil is mainly produced in France.

 

The essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the fresh flowering tops.

In aromatherapy, lavender oil is used for abscesses, acne, allergies, (swimmer’s) eczema, bruises, burns, ear pain, inflammation, insect bites and stings, psoriasis, ulcers, pimples, sunburn, wounds, muscle pain, rheumatism, sprains, asthma, bronchitis, bad breath, sore throat, abdominal cramps, flatulence, nausea, cystitis, leukorrhea, influenza, depression, headaches, insomnia, migraine, PMS, nervousness, and stress-related conditions.
